From The Publisher
As far as we know Odyssey Guides, a division of Airphoto International Ltd., is the only English language travel publisher based in China. For the past 29 years Odyssey Guides have been dedicated to introducing our readers to the irresistible mystery of little known destinations, as well as more familiar ones. Our guidebooks are designed for travelers seeking more than just the practicalities of navigating an unknown land.
A significant proportion of the world's travel and tourism market is no longer interested in the old-style mass tourism destinations. Rather, they are looking for new experiences and new places to visit, away from the usual beaten track. These are the readers who demand more from a guidebook than mere practical details. They want to know more about the background to why a destination is what it is. They want to flesh out the bones and gain a better understanding of the places they plan to visit, if only from their armchairs.
Odyssey Guides are a fine start to the traveler's journey from home. With a tasteful balance of culture, history, customs and local knowledge, written by people who both know and care, the narrative of each book is complemented by stunning photographs, illustrations, up-to-date maps and practical information.
We are confident that our new seasonal titles, along with our recently revised backlist, will inspire voyages of magic and mystery for both actual and armchair travelers. This is what we strive to achieve, so that each and every reader can embark on their own personal Odyssey.
To our audience of intrepid travelers we extend a hearty bon voyage and echo the sentiment from C. P. Cavafy's poem, Ithaka:
"...May there be many summer mornings when, with what pleasure, what joy, you enter harbours you're seeing for the first time..."
